MCAAP Policy on the Use of Tobacco Settlement Funds
On January 19 the MCAAP Executive Board adopted the following policy on use of the settlement funds:
The Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics supports use of the "multi-state tobacco settlement" funds primarily for the purposes of preventing tobacco use by children and adolescents, educating the public about the health risks of tobacco use, and encouraging and assisting adult and youth smokers to quit.
The MCAAP opposes the use of tobacco settlement funds for purposes unrelated to health care or for supplanting existing tobacco control or public health programs.
