Breastfeeding in the Bay State Conference
October 18, 2010

at the Massachusetts Medical Society Conference Center

Registration is now open for the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition's 2010 conference which will take place on October 18, 2010. The conference is jointly sponsored by the Massachusetts chapter of ACOG and U Mass. School of Medicine. 

 

Sports Concussion & Educational Needs of Students with Brain Injury  To be Addressed at BIA-MA’s 2010 Pediatric Brain Injury Conference

 

What: 2010 Pediatric Brain Injury Conference, sponsored by Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA), a private nonprofit association that provides support, prevention, education, and advocacy for individuals with brain injury and their families.  The conference is co-sponsored by Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and Braintree &   New England Rehabilitation Hospitals.

 

Who Should Attend: Educators and medical professionals including teachers, guidance counselors, special needs staff, EMTs, nurses, social workers, case managers, OT/PT therapists, psychologists, athletic directors, coaches, parents, and more.

CEUs are offered in many fields.

 

When: Thursday, October 28, 2010, 7:30 am - 4 pm.

 

Where: Best Western Royal Plaza, Marlboro, MA

                                  

Why:  This conference will provide information and resources on how to better meet the needs of young people with brain injury at home, in school, and on the sports field.

 

Ten sessions/workshops, including:

  • Signs, Symptoms and Neurological Impact of Brain Injury: This presentation will provide the latest information on diagnosing concussions and their impact on physical, behavioral, and emotional functioning.
  • Treating Spasticity and Maximizing Function in Severe Brain Injury: This session will provide an update on the management of spasticity, dystonia, and other motor dysfunctions associated with moderate to severe brain injury.
  • Working with Children with Brain Injury – Advice from the Experts: Child Life Specialists from top Boston Hospitals will discuss assessing needs, techniques for controlling behavior, and getting the most out of rehabilitation.
  • Understanding the Teenage Brain: How the biology, physiology, and chemistry differs from the adult brain and impacts behavior; strategies for injury prevention.
